Cahuita National Park is located south of the town of Cahuita, and 49km south of the city of Limón. It has an area of 1067 Ha, and it is one of the most beautiful natural areas of the country. White sand beaches, thousands of palm trees, a light blue sea and a coral reef make Cahuita a favorite place for nature lovers.

Visitor Services

There are 60 places to camp along the beach, with latrines, tables, drinkable water, and showers. A trail exists along the entire length of the beach, between Cahuita and Puerto Vargas. An exhibition room is located 500m North of the administration office.

Wildlife

Wildlife is very diverse. The most visible are: congo monkey, White-faced monkeys, antoon, southern opossum, saino, caiman, zorrillo, sloths, anteaters, paca, raccoon, armadillos, macaws, toucans and cusuco. Crocodiles can be seen in the rivers, and lobsters and green turtles inhabit the coral reef.

Advice

This area has a higher crime rate than other parts of Costa Rica. Guard carefully your belongings and try not to drive at night alone.

Cost and working hours

Cost: Donations are received in the entrance at Kelly Creek.
Open hours: 8.00 - 16:00. Open everyday.
