Hot Springs are pools of hot water, of volcanic origin. Many of the hot springs form entire rivers, and some are just small ponds that do not drain anywhere.
Because of their volcanic origin, these are located near the active volcanoes; one of the most popular ones is Tabacón River, near La Fortuna, in San Carlos. Some have been heavily developed into great touristic destinations (SPAs, swimming pools, hotels), like Tabacon Resort, while others can be found totally undeveloped and free.
