GPS
A GPS device is very useful if you intend to do any of the following:
- Hike in the mountains.
- Driving in rural areas, due to the lack of road signs.
There are some free GPS maps of Costa Rica available in the web:

Most of the tourist destinations in this site has GPS locations. Attention: dense vegetation or heavy clouds will block GPS signals.
