Biodiversity

It is the home to 60 species of migratory birds and numerous native species. Most of its vegetation has adapted to drought, as the tree "Palo Verde" where the name of the park comes from.

During the dry season, from December to April, the trees are full with fruits. This attracts monkeys, wild pigs, pumas and other mammals. During the rainy season, most of the park is inundated and the birds move in (several species of herons). Palo Verde is home to 300 families of birds, including red macaws. These nest in the neaby Isla de Pajaros, in the middle of the Tempisque River.

The best season for wildlife watching is during the dry season, when the trees have shed their leaves and the animals gather around the remaining water sources.

Visitor Services

There are camping sites, letrines, picnic tables and drinking water.
