Main Historical Attraction

The main historical attraction is "La Casona", the main building of the Santa Rosa Farm, built in 1663. It is a museum showing objects from the 1856 battle against William Walker.

Natural Attractions

The main beach is Playa Naranjo, located 13km west from "La Casona". The road is bad, so an SUV is recommended. Some tourists hike to this beach, but hikers should prepare lots of water since it may take up to 3 hours one way. Another beach is Playa Nancite, where green sea turtles come to nest.

Entry is prohibited to the public.

The Murciélago Islands are a spectacular site for diving.

Camping

Camping sites are located near "La Casona" and at Playa Naranjo.

Species

This park has 115 species of mammals (including 20 species of bats) and 250 species of birds. The best season to watch wildlife is during the dry season, since the trees shed their leaves and animals are more visible. Crocodiles can be seen in the northern and southern tips of Playa Naranjo.
